Dental Implants
Dental implants provide a fixed, permanent solution to missing teeth. In essence it is a substitute for a natural tooth root and grows together with your jaw bone to function like a natural tooth. Once fitted, implants provide the foundation for long-term support of crowns, bridges or dentures.
What are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a small titanium rod that is gently placed directly into the jawbone to act as the root of a tooth to support one or more crowns, a bridge or a denture.
Whether you have a single tooth missing or no teeth at all, dental implants enable the restoration of a natural smile, improving patient comfort and confidence.
The Advantages of Dental Implants
- Dental implants have been available for many years and modern implants show a success rate of 95%-99% over 15-20 years.
- Dental Implants are the closest thing to looking, feeling and functioning like your natural teeth.
- Dental Implants eliminate painful and irritated gums.
- Improvement of your speech.
- Restoring your chewing function so you can enjoy foods you previously found too difficult to eat.
- Dental Implants help stop the progressive bone loss and shrinkage of your jaw bone.
Am I suitable for Dental Implants? The Advantages of Dental Implants
Like any advanced dental treatment, the success of dental implants depends on it being the best treatment for your specific needs. That is why a thorough examination will be carried out, to see if your case is suitable. Occasionally there is not enough bone or it is not healthy enough, therefore without additional treatment it may not be possible to proceed with the implantology treatment.
Botox and Filler
Lines and wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. Since the late 1980’s,
Botox has revolutionised the treatment of ageing skin. It is extremely safe, quick and straight forward and it simply works by relaxing the facial muscles that are responsible for wrinkles.
The main areas for which Botox is used are: the Frown Lines in between the eyes, the Forehead Lines and “Crows Feet” to the side of the eyes. These carefully selected non-surgical aesthetic treatments are minimally invasive and will therefore cause you little discomfort. They provide small but incremental improvements to the look and feel of your skin and your overall feeling of well-being over time.
Benefits
- Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles already formed creating a more youthful appearance.
- Most people find that they can return to work immediately after this procedure.
- Botox injections only affect muscle nerves, not nerves of sensation, so you will not experience a loss of feeling in the treated area.
- Each treatment takes about 15-40 minutes and is generally not painful.
- Botox is not permanent.
Hygiene Visits
This may be provided by our dental hygienist or dentists. They provide a thorough cleaning to keep your teeth, gums and smiles looking healthy and beautiful.
A dental hygiene visit is routinely performed every six months. Some patients with advanced gum disease may require more frequent visits to help reduce tartar and bacteria, and prevent periodontal disease.
Disease
Dental hygiene treatment includes professionally cleaning the teeth for the patient. This is usually called scaling and polishing. However, perhaps our most important role is showing the patient the best way to keep the teeth free of plaque.
Gum Disease
Gum disease can result in receding gums which if left untreated, can result in weakened or even lost teeth. Gum disease can be prevented by looking after your teeth with a good and regular oral hygiene regime. This includes brushing, flossing and regular visits to your dentist and dental hygienist.
What is gingivitis?
Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. This involves the inflammation and infection of the tissue that support the teeth, including the gums and tooth socket (alveolar bone). Often the swollen gums bleed then they are brushed during cleaning.
What is periodontal disease?
Long standing gingivitis that has not been treated can turn into periodontal disease. The inflammation around the teeth caused the gums to pull away from the teeth and forms spaces that become infected. If this is not treated, the bones, gums and tissues supporting the teeth become destroyed. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed.
What is the cause of gum disease?
All gum diseases are causes by plaque. Plaque is a type of bacteria which forms on the surface of the teeth and gums every day. Many of the bacteria in plaque are completely harmless, but there are some that have been shown to be the main cause of gum disease. Brushing and flossing help get rid of plaque.
What happens if gum disease is not treated?
As gum disease progresses, the bacteria are sometimes more active and this makes your gums sore. This can lead to abscesses with pus forming under the gums and teeth. The infection can spread to all areas of your gums and the alveolar bone surrounding your teeth. The bone supporting the teeth can be lost and treatment can become more difficult.
Symptoms of gum disease
- Bleeding gyms (blood on the toothbrush even with gentle brushing of the teeth or in the rinsing water when you clean your teeth).
- Gums are tender when touched and may also bleed when you are eating.
- Bright red or red-purple appearance to gums.
- Swollen gums
- Your breath may also become unpleasant.
- Loose teeth.
- Receding gums or longer appearing teeth.
Smilelign Clear Braces
Whether in your professional life or when you are out socialising, an attractive smile can make you feel happier and more relaxed. If you have ever thought about how improving your smile could help you to feel more confident, Invisalign braces might be for you.
The beauty of Smilelign braces is that the clear aligners are completely invisible to others, which means that you can fix your smile without anyone else even knowing that you are wearing braces. You can attend social and business events with confidence and flash your new smile with pride. Smilelign braces offer comfort, discretion and convenience.
How do Invisible Braces work?
This treatment consists of a series of removable clear aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of clear aligners. As you replace each clear aligner, your teeth will gradually move until they have straightened to the final position.
3D Smilelign software
A unique feature of the Smilelign treatment plan is that you will be able to view your treatment via a 3D software. This 3D software allows you to see the predicted movements that your teeth will make through out your treatment. You will also be given an indication of what your teeth will look like at the end of your Smilelign treatment.
Invisible braces offer a number of significant benefits, including:
- As Smilelign braces are planned in advance, your dentists can more accurately predict when your treatment will be finished.
- Improved periodontal/gum health through better dental hygiene during treatment.
- No metal allergies due to brackets and wires.
- Custom manufacturer means a tailored match to your teeth, for reduced irritation and fewer scratches.
White Fillings Only
If you have broken a tooth, have lost a filling or are developing a cavity, white fillings may be an option for you to consider. Not only are they more aesthetically appealing than their older amalgam counterparts, they have many functional benefits as well.
- Composite (white) fillings are mercury-free and are less sensitive to hot and cold than amalgam fillings.
- Less natural tooth structure is required to be removed in preparation for composite fillings.
- Composites restore most of the original strength of the tooth because it bonds the filling to the tooth and can help prevent fractures in the long-term.
- Unlike composite fillings, amalgam fillings do not adhere to the tooth. They are held in by the shape of the area the dentist prepares. This makes them bigger, causes significant stress on the remaining natural tooth structure, and often leads to fractures in the long term.
